Ever wondered how these negative thoughts, feelings keeps popping up in you head? We all have fallen prey to cognitive distortions. You know the thing is that our brain is wired in such a way as to alert us from danger, attract us to potential partners and find solutions to problems we encounter in our daily lives. Which is a good thing in my opinion and I believe others would agree with this as well. As humans we trust what’s going on in our brains, our brain wouldn’t lead us astray right? Well it so happens that in some situations, we may second guess what our “Mind” is telling us. Is not that our brain is leading us astray or it’s purposely lying to us, it’s just that overtime our brain have possibly developed faulty connections.
It’s not surprising that our brains can create faulty connections. It is because our brain are predisposed to making connections between various thoughts, ideas, actions and consequences, even if it’s true or not.

I will share with you one of my favorite quotes: Be careful how you are talking to yourself because you are listening – by Lisa M. Hayes. When your self-talk is negative your brain is actively paying attention, which can create distortions in your thoughts, you are what you tell yourself everyday. When you keep thinking negative your brain picks up on this. Always make sure that your self-talk is positive as your mind is listening, you should feed it love, kindness and positive vibes.

What Are Cognitive Distortions?
Cognitive distortions are biased perspectives we take on ourselves and the world around us. They are irrational thoughts and beliefs that we unknowingly reinforce over time. These patterns and systems of thought are often subtle, which makes it difficult to recognize when they are a regular feature of our day-to-day thoughts. That is why our thoughts can be so damaging and it’s hard to change what you don’t recognize as something that needs to change!
All cognitive distortions come in many forms and they all seem to have these three things in common:
Tendencies or patterns of thinking or believing
That are false or inaccurate;
Have the potential to cause psychological damage.
There are many forms of cognitive distortions which I will break down in the following blog post. This is to make sure you all don’t get bored.
